From jewelry WORKSHOPS to red carpet

Blurring the lines and letting jewelry venture into the realm of high fashion... This creative challenge was met with dazzling success thanks to more than two years of hard work from the jewelers at Cartier’s workshops.

The result was a hybrid object, somewhere between an ornament and a garment, exquisite down to the very last detail.

At first glance, it looks like a simple cape, draped over the shoulders like a second skin and adorned with tassels of faceted onyx. In just seconds, it transforms into the most extravagant of adornments, fluid and silky, flowing down from a choker at the neckline.

Reconciling rigor and audacity, restraint and self-expression, this is what has guided this jeweler’s approach, reflecting the expertise of the craftspeople and their passion to continually push boundaries.

The art of ornamental jewelry

An unprecedented collaboration between the Cartier Creative Studio designer, a Parisian pattern maker and a chain maker, this precious cape is the result of bringing together a chainmail made of more than 67,000 rings textured one by one and assembled by hand, 14 specially developed gold zippers and 150 diamonds spread between the cape and the faceted onyx tassels. The chain mail drapes over the body with an incredible lightness, supple and sophisticated in its finishes and effects.

Cartier Libre: unbridled creativity

The cape reflects the spirit of the Cartier Libre collection, which, year after year, pushes creative boundaries and challenges conventions, giving life to pieces produced in limited editions. In addition to watchmaking, Cartier Libre has also entered the world of jewelry and the rest of the Maison’s realms of expression.

These explorations are part of the Cartier tradition of original collections, born from a powerful curiosity. Three aesthetic elements characterize this new edition, based on the use of gold, volume and contrasts - a stylistic heritage of Jeanne Toussaint, Creative Director from 1933 to the 1970s.
