FROM ONE MATERIAL TO ANOTHER

Placing the cycle of nature at the heart of creation: this is what inspired Cartier to turn to artist and researcher Lucile Viaud when it came to staging the Beautés du Monde collection.

Through her expertise, she transforms marine sediments into decorations for the window displays of a selection of Boutiques, reinventing them as sustainable decorative objects.

Tracing the landscape

Lucile Viaud, French artist and researcher and expert in the formulation of local natural glass, creates objects from marine and land-based waste, recovered in France, from
Lorraine to Occitania.

The pieces of glass she creates retain the traces of their origins. This is how geoglasswork, or “the art of making the link between land and material,” was born. Convinced that waste is a treasure waiting to be enhanced, she raises awareness about the preservation of our natural resources and our heritage and relies on a scientific approach developed with researchers from different backgrounds.

UNIVERSES IN DIALOGUE

From this new and precious material, Glaz marine glass, with its transparent and colorful effects, Lucile creates all kinds of objects: pots, vases, but also weavings and decorative elements. These materials and shapes inspired the Cartier Creative Visual Experience teams to commission the artist to create decorative elements showcasing the Beautés du Monde collection in the windows of certain Cartier boutiques.

The virtuous cycle of
transformation

The contrast is striking between raw and refined, timeless and perpetual renewal. The draped glass rods and abstract glass pastes that appeared in the Cartier windows have since changed state; they have been transfigured through a new metamorphosis into perennial vases, given to the boutiques as a souvenir of this very special event. The result is a metamorphosis or the art of inscribing beauty in the great cycle of nature.

The permanent creations resulting from this new transformation are shown in the Emerald Salon at 13 rue de la Paix.
